BEYOND SUCCESS
Jordynn Woods, 17, sustained a spinal cord injury and transferred to the Adolescent Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program at Shepherd Center.
Her mom remembers it was a difficult time for them both. At the trauma facility, “she couldn’t move. She could shrug her shoulders, and she could say her name…” But shortly after Jordynn arrived at Shepherd, another teen stopped by to talk. “I just saw Jordynn blossom – she became the old Jordynn, laughing, having a good time hanging out. Once she was out of her shell, I came out of my shell because now I’m like, she’s going to be okay.”
After that moment, there was no stopping Jordynn and what she could achieve.

Christion Abercrombie, age 22, survived a series of strokes and was on a ventilator when admitted to Shepherd Center.
“We arrived on a Wednesday,” his mom said. “By Friday, he was on the rehab floor, and therapists were working with him all day. That was such a turning point. It was like our prayers had been answered. The entire care team worked beyond expectations. They treated us like family. And they weren’t just working with Christion. They also helped us cope with how much our world had changed.”
Christion has since graduated from Tennessee State with a Bachelor of Science degree in interdisciplinary studies and has started his own foundation.

We were told that Shepherd Center was the best, and it lived up to its reputation,” says her husband, Josh. “I credit them as much as I credit Erica. She put in the hard work, but they helped guide her every step of the way.
In October 2021, she ran a 15K (9.3 miles), finishing second place in the female category. Her next goal: 26.2 miles.
