Shepherd Center’s library, the Noble Learning Resource Center (NLRC), is open to all patients, their family members and visitors, as well as to community members with questions related to Shepherd Center’s areas of expertise. An experienced librarian is available to help with medical research. We offer specialized information on spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, post-polio, and other neurological disorders.

Resources

The library provides medical books, journals and databases, patient and family medical resources, educational DVDs, and computers for researching medical issues.

The NLRC is a member of:

  • Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association (SC/MLA)
  • Georgia Health Sciences Library Association (GHSLA)

Services

The NLRC offers a variety of helpful resources and services, including:

  • Access to medical books: Choose from a collection of consumer and clinical medical books, available in both hard copy and electronic formats. Books can be checked out by hospital staff, patients, and their families.
  • Medical database access: Employees can access medical databases through the intranet. Patients and families can use these databases via the library computers.
  • Emergency voting resources: We provide information and resources to help patients and families secure their ballots during emergencies.
  • Literature search assistance: Need a specific article or research? Contact the librarian for a literature search or help obtaining articles.
  • Computer access: Library computers with internet access are available for patients and families. Please note, we are not a public library. For public computer access, we recommend visiting the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library.
