For 50 years, Shepherd Center has been a home where hope takes root and lives are rebuilt — with hope, humor, and heart. Individuals from across the country come here to find strength after spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, and other complex conditions.
Portraits of Hope is a one-night gallery event that celebrates and honors our patient’s journeys through the powerful, intimate art of photography. In collaboration with the American Photographic Artists Atlanta chapter, the portraits in this gallery tell stories of strength, recovery, humor, and connection of our patients alongside those who have helped light the way. From therapists to friends, family members to service animals, each portrait tells a story of resilience, a spark of joy, and the powerful relationships that make hope possible.
What you’ll find at the Portraits of Hope gallery exhibit:
- A self-guided gallery experience with intimate portraits and personal video reflections from the patients themselves.
- A Creative Corner highlighting the photographers and artists behind the portraits and their collaborative process.
- Opportunities to meet some of the featured patients and artists.
- Social courtyard experience with music by a live DJ and light refreshments.
- A warm, reflective space to celebrate art, resilience, and community.
