How did you join the Peer Support Program?
My dual injury (spinal cord and brain injury) from an accident when I was 24 sparked my interest in this role. I had guidance from a few 'elders' in this community when I was freshly injured, and I felt I could offer the same with my experience.
What is your role and tenure?
I have been a Peer Support Liaison for about three years and have volunteered for close to 9 years. I had the honor of connecting with clients to share my experiences and help them navigate the start of a lifestyle no one expects.
What is your favorite thing about this program?
One of my favorite things about this program is seeing how fast the clients can grow and actively being part of that growth, helping supply them with the tools needed to be more independent and watching them put those tools to use in ways I hadn't tried.
What do you like to do during your leisure time away from work?
I like to spend time with my wife and kids, work on my cars, keep up the garden and yard, have fun at the lake water skiing and swimming, and traveling.
