About

Dr. Alicia Seeds is a dedicated physiatrist and Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Day Program, known for her deeply compassionate and patient-centered approach to care. Inspired by a personal family experience with spinal cord injury in 2004, Dr. Seeds views her work not simply as a profession, but as a calling. This experience shaped her commitment to supporting patients and their families through some of life’s most challenging moments with empathy, understanding, and expertise.

Dr. Seeds provides care across the full continuum of spinal cord injury, from the earliest stages following injury through long-term recovery. She takes a holistic and individualized approach, striving to understand each patient on a personal level in order to empower them to regain independence and discover their own sense of hope, meaning, and joy. She strongly values an interdisciplinary, team-based rehabilitation model, recognizing the vital role collaboration plays in optimizing outcomes and quality of life.

Originally from Santa Ana, California, Dr. Seeds first joined Shepherd Center in 2023 as a Spinal Cord Injury Medicine Fellow. She was immediately drawn to the organization’s unique origin story and mission, rooted in a family’s experience with spinal cord injury and their desire to help others. The culture of compassion, service, and innovation she encountered closely aligned with her own values, solidifying her desire to continue her career at Shepherd Center. Today, she is proud to be part of a collaborative environment that prioritizes patients and families while advancing possibilities for individuals with neurologic injuries.

Outside of her clinical work, Dr. Seeds is actively involved in community service and research. She volunteers at the Georgia Rehabilitation Services Volunteer Partnership (RSVP) Clinic, providing free, comprehensive rehabilitation care to underserved populations in the Atlanta area, and supports adaptive sports programs. Her research interests focus on health disparities, with particular attention to firearm-related spinal cord injury outcomes.

In her personal time, Dr. Seeds enjoys staying active — running along the Atlanta BeltLine, playing recreational flag football and soccer, and snowboarding during the winter months. She especially cherishes time spent with her six nieces and nephews in California.
