About Elizabeth

“Research is the bridge between questions and hope.”

That belief drives Elizabeth Gonzales’s work as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Shepherd Center’s Virginia C. Crawford Research Institute. With a focus on neurological research studies, she ensures that every trial reflects both scientific rigor and the human stories behind the data.

Elizabeth manages complex clinical studies, including SPHERES (NMOSD registry), ENABLE (real-world outcomes for BRIUMVI in MS), and MSIN (collaboration to improve multiple sclerosis care and quality of life). Her role blends precision and compassion — coordinating daily activities with investigators, clinicians, and management teams to deliver accurate, timely results that matter for patients and families.

Why her work matters

Elizabeth’s passion for research began with her first project — the Accelerated Cure Project for MS — which involved family participation and revealed the profound impact of research on communities often unheard. Later, working with patients diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder deepened her commitment to amplifying patient voices and addressing unmet needs.

“Shepherd Center opens doors for foundations like the Guthy-Jackson Charitable Foundation to give patients with rare diseases a voice. I love working with my patients and helping them accomplish their goals.”

Beyond Shepherd

Elizabeth actively supports patient advocacy initiatives and collaborates with foundations focused on rare neurological conditions.

Outside of work, Elizabeth enjoys baking for her family. She treasures time with her two adorable grandchildren, Lucas and Julia, her loving husband, and two daughters who also work in the medical field.
