About

Katie Metzger, OTR, MBA, serves as the director of the Acquired Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at Shepherd Center. Katie brings over 30 years of experience as an occupational therapist and leader. In her role she oversees a full continuum of services to treat people who have experienced a traumatic or non-traumatic brain injury or stroke. The continuum includes the inpatient brain injury and stroke patient care units, as well as Shepherd Pathways, a comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation program comprised of a residential program, day program and outpatient services.

Katie’s passion for patient experience and performance outcomes is shaped from her broad healthcare experience. She joined Shepherd Center from Northwell Health in Bay Shore, New York, where she served as the director of patient and customer experience. Prior to that Katie served as the manager of acute inpatient rehabilitation services for brain injury at Northwell Health. Earlier in her career she served as an occupational therapist at both Northwell Health and the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.

Katie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University and a Master’s degree of Business Administration in healthcare management from St. Joseph’s College.
