Journey to the peer support program
My son was at Shepherd Center in 2019 after sustaining a TBI in a car accident. While he was inpatient, I attended classes led by Peer Support that taught me caregiving skills. I learned to recognize and handle my emotions, and that self-care is necessary, not selfish. I quickly realized I wanted to one day offer these insights to others in a similar situation. I wanted to share my family’s experience to give back what was given to us and to show there is hope and quality of living after injury!
Role and tenure
I have been a Peer Support Liaison since January 2022. I connect with others new to caregiving, offering support and sharing my real-life experiences.
Favorite thing about the program
My favorite part of this program is supporting caregivers through a tough transformative time in their lives by sharing my personal experiences with them on their journey.
Life outside Shepherd Center
My favorite thing to do is shop! I also enjoy getting my nails done, being outdoors, and spending time with my family (especially my two grandbabies).
