Below, you’ll find an overview of the primary treatment programs available to you at Shepherd Center.

Adult inpatient brain injury rehabilitation program

Our adult inpatient brain injury rehabilitation program takes a comprehensive approach to your recovery. We work closely with you to develop a personalized care plan that addresses your physical and cognitive needs, helping you achieve your recovery goals. Throughout the program, we involve you and your family every step of the way, ensuring you feel fully supported during your journey.

Key features of the adult inpatient program

Specialized care in a supporting setting

The facility includes 58 secured-care units for a variety of brain injuries, such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, tumors, encephalitis, and anoxia. Each unit features large therapy gyms with advanced rehabilitation technology, a transitional living apartment, and private treatment rooms.

Personalized care

Our highly trained clinicians and staff create individualized treatment plans that incorporate occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreational therapy, counseling, peer support, and nutritional assessments.

Continuum of care

When you’re ready to move beyond inpatient care, you may transition to our brain injury day program or the residential program at Shepherd Pathways.

Adolescent inpatient brain injury rehabilitation program

Shepherd Center’s adolescent inpatient brain injury rehabilitation program is designed to meet your unique developmental and emotional needs as a younger patient. Led by experienced physicians and staff, we take a coordinated, team-based approach to help you achieve your maximum potential for independence and function.

Specialized care for adolescents

The program offers individualized medical, psychological, and rehabilitative care from an interdisciplinary care team evaluating each young patient’s brain injury, family history, medical needs, and rehabilitation goals.

Family and friends’ involvement

A high involvement of family and friends is encouraged to participate in rehabilitation, and Shepherd Center provides education to prepare them for caregiving roles.

Support for returning to school

Neuropsychologists and speech therapists conduct evaluations to identify cognitive challenges and create goals to help adolescents reintegrate into school settings. Specialized therapists also assist in creating individualized education plans for school systems.

Community integration activities

Outings such as trips to restaurants, shopping malls, and milestone events like prom help adolescents learn to function in social settings with appropriate support.u

Extensive family support

Shepherd Center offers a range of support services for families, including individual and group counseling, peer support, and resources to help families adjust to new dynamics. Licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), chaplains, and psychologists are available to provide guidance throughout the rehabilitation journey.
