Pharmacy Residency Program FAQs

No, we do not currently have an on-call program.

Residents work one evening shift per month after they have been signed off to practice independently and have obtained full pharmacist licensure.

Once a resident has been signed off to practice independently, they serve as the sole pharmacist for a 9-hour shift on both Saturday and Sunday.

Residents are scheduled to work every third weekend.

Yes. Residents are expected to work at least one major holiday, typically Thanksgiving or Christmas. The holiday assignment is determined among the residents.

No. Working a minor holiday is not a requirement of the residency program.

We currently do not accept F-1 STEM OPT visas.

No. Residents must obtain full pharmacist licensure within 90 days of the start of the residency program.

Yes. Residents are required to have an active temporary pharmacist license by the first day of the residency program.

Residents accrue 7.38 hours of PDO per pay period.

Residents may take up to 5 PDO days during a 5-week rotation without requiring makeup time. This is also dependent on the amount of PDO the resident has accrued.

Yes. Free parking is provided.

Yes. Participation on at least one committee of the resident’s choice is a requirement of the pharmacy practice rotation.

Yes. Residents are expected to present Grand Rounds through GSHP, present their research at SERC, and may have the opportunity to present a project at ASHP Midyear.

Yes. Completion of a teaching certificate program is a requirement of the residency and is completed in collaboration with Mercer College of Pharmacy.

No. Publications are not required, but they are strongly encouraged for residents who are interested in pursuing them.

Yes. Completion of a project is a requirement of ASHP. We have transitioned toward a greater emphasis on quality improvement projects; however, residents interested in conducting traditional research may pursue a research project if it can reasonably be completed within the residency year.

Yes. Residents are able to select their elective. Elective selections are typically due 4–6 weeks after the start of the residency program.

We use Epic.

No. Moonlighting is not permitted during the residency year.
