Dr. Chay’s Medical Background
Wes Chay, M.D., is the program director for graduate medical education at Shepherd Center. Dr. Chay joined Shepherd Center in 2017. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and is subspecialty board-certified in spinal cord injury medicine. Dr. Chay currently leads one interdisciplinary team in the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit and two interdisciplinary teams in the Spinal Cord Injury Program.
Dr. Chay came to Shepherd from MossRehab in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, where he served as the clinical director of the Inpatient Spinal Cord Injury Program in the Department of Physical Medicine at Rehabilitation.
Dr. Chay received both a bachelor’s degree in zoology and his medical degree from the University of Florida. He completed residency training in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Emory University, where he also served as chief resident in his final year. He completed a fellowship in spinal cord injury medicine at Kessler-Rutgers University, under the mentorship of Dr. Steven Kirshblum.
Dr. Chay is an assistant professor (adjunct) in PM&R at Emory University School of Medicine. He received the Teacher of the Year Award from Temple University Hospital Department of PM&R in 2017 and the Robert L. Bennett, M.D., Award for Teaching Excellence in Physiatry from Emory University in 2019.
