About the Andrew C. Carlos Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship

The Andrew C. Carlos MS Fellowship at Shepherd Center offers a comprehensive one-year fellowship program designed to provide advanced training in the diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis and related central nervous system (CNS) inflammatory disorders. Each year, one fellow is selected for this program.

The fellowship curriculum emphasizes:

  • Accurate Diagnosis: Training in the latest diagnostic techniques to identify MS and related CNS inflammatory disorders.
  • Immunotherapies and Symptomatic Treatments: Education on the appropriate use of immunotherapies and the management of symptoms associated with MS.
  • Comprehensive Rehabilitation: Integration of a holistic approach to rehabilitation, focusing on improving patients' quality of life.
  • Multidisciplinary Rounds: Participation in biweekly rounds involving various specialists to ensure a collaborative approach to patient care.
  • Inpatient Consults: Hands-on experience with inpatient consults from acute rehabilitation settings, providing a broad exposure to patient care.

Additionally, the fellowship offers ample opportunities for involvement in clinical research, including both pharmaceutical-initiated and investigator-initiated studies. This program is designed to equip fellows with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to excel in the field of multiple sclerosis care and research.

Fellowship Structure

The Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship focuses on accurate diagnosis, use of immunotherapies, and symptomatic treatments. Training includes comprehensive rehabilitation, biweekly multidisciplinary rounds, and inpatient consults from acute rehab. Fellows will also have opportunities for clinical research, involving both pharmaceutical-initiated and investigator-initiated studies.

Fellowship Experience

As a member of Shepherd Center’s multiple scelorsis team, you are trained in consultation with medical staff members, health care teams, families, administrative systems, and individuals with multiple sclerosis and central nervous system disorders. Each fellow's training is individually designed to meet specific interests and training goals. As a Shepherd fellow, you’ll be part of a supportive community dedicated to individual growth and success.

Yes, fellows will receive an annual stipend at the PGY-5 level/rate.

Each fellow recieves 15 days per academic year.
