About Chris Maurer

“The right technology doesn’t just solve problems — it creates freedom.”

Why her work matters

Chris is passionate about ensuring that costly devices meet real user needs. Her research focuses on understanding who uses what equipment, in what contexts, and with what outcomes — optimizing prescriptions for better matches, improved results, and reduced waste. She also drives innovation in niche products that expand independence and participation for people with disabilities.

“My work at Shepherd is meaningful because I see daily how the right technology transforms independence and quality of life. Leading a team that advances best practices and data-driven solutions allows me to connect clinical experience with innovation, making lasting, real-world impact.”

Beyond Shepherd

Chris is deeply committed to advancing access and independence beyond her role at Shepherd Center. She volunteers as a seating specialist for Atlanta RSVP, providing rehabilitation for uninsured or underinsured individuals with brain, stroke, and spinal cord injuries. She also serves on the Clinician Task Force and contributes to the Mustard Seed Communities wheelchair team, delivering custom wheelchairs to residents with disabilities in Jamaica.

Chris also actively collaborates with Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) through the Shepherd Center/GT partnership.
